Reviews:
- Seti is a band that is really worth listening to. Quite amazing progressive rock from a band that comes from Chile. You would really never know it by listening, as they sound more like a great prog band from England or Sweden. The musicianship is top-notch, the songs well-crafted, and the vocals sound amazingly like Greg Lake or John Wetton. Lots of synth keyboards that create some really nice atmospheres. The CD reminds me a bit of the K2 project "Book of the Dead" from last year although the guitarist sounds more like Steve Hackett than Allan Holdswoth, and there is no violin, yet they definately have their own sound. I am really looking forward to hearing more from these guys, but meanwhile I am really enjoying listening to this CD! Highly recommended. Nice cover art too! (Russ Bellinger, Amazon)
- Here is another strong CD from a South-American progrock band, it seems that they are becoming the new leaders in the world of the progressive rock: William Gray, Bauer and Nexus from Argentina, Supay from Peru, Parthenon from Venezuela, Tarkus, Spin, GALF and Diapasao from Brazil and from Chile we have Astralis and .... Seti, what a wonderful debut CD (from 2005)! The brainchild is Claudio Momberg (multi-instrumentalist, producer, lay-out and composer), he has surrounded himself with seven other musicians to found Seti. The climates in the eight melodic, pleasant and tasteful arranged compositions (five instrumental) alternates from spacey and dreamy to mid-tempo but mainly compelling and bombastic delivering lush keyboards and howling guitar runs, very moving. The keyboard sound is varied, from warm piano and orchestral layers to fluent organ runs and fat synthesizer flights. The English vocals are decent with a bit melancholical undertone. My favorite on this CD is the guitar player, this man knows how to push the rights buttons with lots of very moving soli! The highlight on this wonderful CD is the final track entitled The Ship Of Joy (almost 18 minutes, five parts). It contains lots of flowing shifting moods with strong vocals, sensitive guitar and Mark Kelly inspired synthesizer flights. Halfway the music turns from mellow into more and more lush, culminating in a splendid 'grand finale' featuring propulsive drums, powerful bass notes, bombastic keyboards and a strongly build-up, very moving guitar soli, goose bumps, this is Progheaven! At those moments Seti reminds me of early Marillion with closing sections like in Chelsea Monday and Forgotten Sons. I hope Seti will release their forthcoming new album soon because this debut-CD has delighted me, highly recommended! (Erik Neuteboom, ProgArchives)
- SETI is a present Progressive rock outfit from Chile. It is in fact a side-project of the musicians of SUBTERRA, led by the keyboardist-bassist Claudio MOMBERG. Its name is taken from the famous NASA program: Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. This scientific experience in radio-astronomy aims to create contact with possible extra-terrestrial life forms. But let's come back onto our good old planet Earth for a while, just to present "Life Forms" (2005), a first album sounding like a revelation and jointly released by the Musea and Mylodon labels. Long tracks are included, with deliberate slow and atmospheric tempos, in the vein of PINK FLOYD or PULSAR. In three tracks among eight of them, the voice of Jaime SCALPELLO may remind that of Stephen GEYSENS (VISIBLE WIND). Also noteworthy is the 17 minute long suite that concludes this major opus. A true success in the genre ! (Musea Records Review)
- Release Date: 2005, which gives us this Chilean project (SETI = Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) to its eight songs, including long tracks of more than 17 minutes in length, it's also very fine atmospheric Prog music. Peppered with well-mixed, rocking and ambient sounds, Seti creates for me a fine mixture of music from bands like Pink Floyd, Pulsar, Tangerine Dream and Pallas. The head of this project is a certain Claudio Momberg from Chile, who is responsible for all the compositions, including the lyrics. In addition to his main instrument, the keyboards, he plays bass and guitar. Mr Momberg is a longstanding member of the Progrock band Subterra and a member of the Marillion tribute band "Fugazi". About these bands are also links with drummer Eduardo Cuesta, as well as bassist José Luis Ramos. There are also four different guitarists (and rather good) to report on this work, which are also with the other musicians in bands of Seti connection. Finally, singer Jaime Scalpello must be mentioned, also sings in the prog band Entrance(with keyboardist Jaime Rosas) and leaves an excellent impression. On the three pieces with vocals, I can almost detect an accent, not his home, singing in English texts in a timbre between Alan Reed of Pallas and John Wetton. Anyway, without the background information about this project, I would have thought that Seti rather come from Britain or Scandinavia. To that extent, "Life Signs" is for me as a pretty good international production, it can absorb from their musical quality with the best CDs from the symphonic prog-rock area in recent years. Here the French Musea label in cooperation with the South American Mylodon Records Label in December 2005 released a jewel, which until now little has been discovered in our latitudes. (W.
